Wellness is an important factor in the work place for many reasons. For one, the more health claims, the higher the premiums. Less obvious results of improved wellness involve employee performance. Healthier employees require fewer absences, as well as a reduction in presenteeism. They are generally more agreeable and more open to change, leading to increased productivity. Stress is also a significant factor in employee wellness. Everyone reacts differently to stress and prolonged stress within the work place and it can have detrimental effects on employees. Employee wellness does not have to be accomplished solely by the employer. PPACA now covers 100% of preventative care, however, only 30% of employers take advantage of this viable option. By incorporating preventative and wellness measures, employers are sure to see an improvement in employee wellness.
